Documented by Cuds on Coins as the seventh cataloged rim cud for the 1979-P Susan B. Anthony Dollar, CU-100c-1979P-07 represents a major die break where part of the die's rim gutter was lost, leaving a raised interruption in the design rim, following its curve, on every coin struck afterward. Rim cuds are among the most visually dramatic die errors in U.S. numismatics — unlike hairline die cracks or subtle hub-doubling varieties, a cud is immediately apparent to the unaided eye as a raised interruption disrupting the coin's normal circular profile. The underlying cause is fatigue failure in the die steel, where accumulated stress from hundreds of thousands of strikes takes its toll at the rim, and all subsequent strikes from that damaged die produce coins with the characteristic raised interruption in the rim.
