Description
CU-1C-1979D-04 is a cud on the 1979-D Lincoln Memorial cent. Each cud variety in the census originates from a separate working die that reached the failure threshold — the point at which accumulated fatigue damage along the rim culminates in the detachment of a steel fragment. The diagnostic for distinguishing CU-1C-1979D-04 from the other entries lies in the specific rim location of the break, the angular arc it spans, and any design elements obscured by the resulting extrusion of copper. Denver's hand-punched D mintmark appears on the obverse of all 1979-D cents and can sometimes interact with cud breaks if the failure occurs in the vicinity of the date or mintmark area, though each variety's specific break position must be confirmed against reference photographs. All 1979-D Lincoln Memorial cents were struck from the standard 95% copper alloy composition. Attribution by Cuds on Coins.
