Description
A silver restrike of the Washington Before Boston medal struck in 1978, cataloged as Musante GW-09-P6 and representing the sixth Paris Mint reverse die pairing. This late twentieth century production demonstrates the remarkable longevity of the Washington Before Boston medal, which has been struck in various editions for over two hundred years since its original authorization in 1776. The 1978 restrike was produced at the Paris Mint (Monnaie de Paris), which continued to offer historical medal restrikes as part of its commercial program. The obverse shows Washington's military bust with the Comitia Americana legend, and the sixth reverse die reproduces the Boston evacuation scene. Silver strikings represent the premium offering from this production run. These modern restrikes, while far from the original production era, maintain the connection to the historical dies and the Paris Mint's centuries-long tradition of medal production. Silver, approximately 68mm diameter.
Rarity Notes
