Description
Reaching the tenth documented position in the 1977 Denver Mint cud census, CU-1C-1977D-10 records another terminal rim fracture from the Denver facility's Lincoln Memorial cent production. The cud error mechanism is consistent across all entries: fatigue-driven crack propagation through the hardened die steel at the rim culminates in the complete separation of a fragment, and the resulting cavity produces a raised, featureless blob of extruded planchet metal on every coin struck from the damaged die until it is detected and replaced. CU-1C-1977D-10 was cataloged by Cuds on Coins without additional cross-reference numbers from alternative attribution services. The 1977 Denver cent was struck from the standard 95% copper composition with Denver's hand-punched "D" mintmark, and the enormous volume of dies consumed across the production year made terminal rim failures a statistical certainty. Collectors seeking this variety should compare the break's clock-position and geometry against the reference record to confirm the attribution. Attribution by Cuds on Coins.
