Description

One of the most significant Kennedy half dollar doubled dies, the 1977-D WDDO-001 shows a strong Class I counterclockwise spread on the date, the front of Kennedy's neck, IN GOD WE TRUST, and LIBERTY. Cross-references: CONECA 1-O-I; Cherrypickers' Guide FS-50-1977D-101; Wexler Variety ID 1977-D 50¢ WDDO-001. Die stage documentation: Stage A shows a die gouge below the right side of the O in GOD; Stage B shows the die heavily abraded with numerous die scratches throughout the obverse and three parallel markers further confirming the pair. The 1977-D Kennedy half was struck in clad composition following the end of the 40% silver series in 1970. Denver half dollars of the mid-1970s circulated widely, and the Cherrypickers' listing FS-50-1977D-101 confirms recognition across multiple major reference systems. Buyers should verify the neck and IGWT spread first, then confirm the date doubling under strong lighting for complete attribution. Three parallel die scratches run from north to south through and to the right of the D in GOD.
