Third in the 1975 Denver Mint cud catalog, CU-1C-1975D-03 records yet another rim break on a die that was used to strike Lincoln Memorial cents at the Denver facility during 1975. Each entry in a date's cud census represents a distinct die that developed a terminal rim fracture — the point at which accumulated stress caused a section of hardened die steel to break free from the die's edge. The detached fragment left a cavity that filled with flowing planchet metal on every strike, creating the raised, textureless mass that characterizes cud errors.
