Description
The 1968 (D) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 91.2 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Mint marks returned, now placed on the obverse near the date rather than the traditional reverse location. San Francisco resumed proof-only production. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $5 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4080.
