Description
1965 WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1965 Special Mint Set Kennedy half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class V counterclockwise (CCW) spread, pivoting near 6:00, shows on USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA) and the stars below it, and slightly on the stars above E PLURIBUS UNUM (EPU). On the obverse, a scratch heads WNW to the rim from the upper left of LIBERTY's R. On the reverse, a short vertical gouge lies left of the U in UNITED, and the banner carries a gouge over the M in UNUM. Joseph Amoroso submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes the variety comes from 1965 Special Mint Sets, and that it was once WDDR-010 before being renumbered to help fill the many gaps in the listings left after a doubled working hub was recognized. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
