1964-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007

Description

Among the final year of 90% silver Roosevelt Dimes, the 1964-D WDDR-007 displays a spread toward the center on a broad suite of reverse design elements: USA, ONE DIME, the E and PLU of E PLURIBUS UNUM, the NUM of UNUM, the outer olive leaves, the outer oak leaves, and the flames at the top of the torch all show measurable separation. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1964-D 10c WDDR-007. Two die stages are documented. In Stage A, the obverse shows a blunt tail on the 9 of the date, a small die gouge to the left of the lower B in LIBERTY, and a die gouge above the front curl of hair; the reverse carries no significant markers in this stage. Stage B retains all Stage A obverse markers and adds reverse diagnostics: a die gouge above the top olive and a die scratch curving northwest from the top left of the E in ONE. The 1964-D was struck in enormous quantity as Mint and Treasury officials anticipated the coming transition to clad coinage, making higher-grade doubled die examples relatively elusive despite the large mintage.
