Description

Medium spread and extra thickness on ONE DIME, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, UNUM, and the right leaves make this 1964-D Roosevelt Dime one of the more broadly distributed DDR varieties for the date. Die markers UVC-470 and DMR-018 support attribution, and comments note ODV-011 on the obverse — a blunt 9 in the date where the numeral displays an unusually squared appearance rather than the typical curved tail. Three die stages are documented: Stage A at Early Die State features a circular die scratch around the reverse through the mintmark, Stage B at MDS, and Stage C at Late Die State remains unconfirmed. Additional progressive markers include a die chip on the nostril at MDS and numerous die scratches on the obverse, charting deterioration over the die's service life. The blunt 9 on obverse die ODV-011 provides a distinctive confirmation point — collectors can identify the correct obverse before examining the reverse doubling. Denver struck enormous quantities of Roosevelt Dimes in 1964 as the Mint built inventories ahead of the coming composition change, and that high-volume production generated numerous die pairs where hub doubling could occur.
