1964-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-007
Error
Description
Spanning four documented die stages — an unusually thorough service life record — this 1964-D Roosevelt Dime DDR-007 shows light spread on OF AMERICA and DIME while exhibiting a mid-production obverse die swap that changed the variety's UVC code from 461 to 462. Cataloged by VarietyVista, Stage A begins in early die state (unconfirmed), and Stage B develops die cracks from the right stem south to the I of DIME and from the head to the rim at the K-1 position, both indicating mid-die state. At Stage C, the obverse die was replaced, changing the UVC from 461 to 462, and a new die crack formed from the M of AMERICA north to the rim, placing the coin in late-mid die state. Stage D reaches late die state (unconfirmed). The replacement obverse is identified as ODV-011, the Blunt 9 variant where the upper curve of the 9 in the date appears flattened. As the last year of 90% silver Roosevelt Dimes before the 1965 transition to copper-nickel clad, varieties from 1964-D carry dual appeal for silver-era collectors and die variety specialists. The four-stage documentation captures nearly the complete working life of this reverse die.
