1964-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-002

Description

Second doubled die reverse for the 1964 Denver Roosevelt Dime, DDR-002 shows light spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, DIME, UNUM, and right leaves, with a three-stage progression featuring a remarkable nostril detail. Cataloged by VarietyVista with codes UVC-456 and DMR-004, Stage A is unconfirmed. Stage B at mid-die state shows a die dent from N of UNUM to the last A of AMERICA, a die crack from the head to the rim at K-1, and a small die chip in the nostril. Stage C at late die state develops the nostril chip into a full die break, tracking a single diagnostic from chip to break across stages. The obverse is ODV-011, the Blunt 9 variant where the 9 in the date lacks its usual pointed tail — adding a second attributable characteristic independent of the reverse doubling. The 1964-D was the last 90% silver dime struck for circulation, giving varieties from this terminal silver date enduring appeal.
