Description

A CW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on USA, the designer’s initials, the right base of the Memorial, and EPU. A strong Class II spread towards the center shows on ONE CENT and USA. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A short, heavy die scratch extends NE from Lincoln’s eyebrow. Obverse Stage B: The die scratch from the eyebrow is still visible but it is much weaker. Reverse Stage A: A small die gouge can be seen curving towards the roof of the Memorial below the N of UNUM. A die scratch runs SE from the lower right N of UNUM to the roof of the Memorial below the M of UNUM. A short die scratch runs NW to SE to the right of the statue’s head. Reverse Stage B: The doubling has a “mushy” appearance. All Stage A markers have been abraded away. A small die chip can be found at the top of the 11th Memorial column. A die crack runs down the edge of the right cornice and down the 12th column. Obverse Stage A
