1963 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001 / DDR-001

Description

DDR-001, which Wexler numbers WDDR-001, is a doubled die reverse on the 1963-D Roosevelt dime, with strong spread on the lettering and design elements of the right side and light to medium spread on the left. Both catalogs cite it as FS-801 in the Cherrypickers' Guide (Wexler writes FS-10-1963D-801 (018.2)). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a strong CW spread, pivoting at 8:00, on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DIME, the flame of the torch, and the lower branches and leaves. On the obverse a long SSE scratch runs from the rim between the T and Y of LIBERTY to the forehead, and a NNW scratch runs from the upper right of the O of GOD to the chin. On the reverse SE scratches run from inside the lower part of the C of AMERICA and from inside the left lower leg of the second A of AMERICA. Gary Wagnon submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 1-R-IV. VarietyVista credits Joe Feld with the report. Under its marker codes UVC-423 and DMR-002, both sides are in an early die state at stage A, a middle die state at stage B, and a late die state at stage C.
