Description

Expanding the 1962-D Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR catalog, WDDR-002 carries a spread towards the center on OF AMERICA — a longer inscription than the USA affected on WDDR-001, extending the centripetal Class II displacement across six characters including the space between OF and AMERICA in the upper reverse legend. This wider zone of involvement suggests a hub distortion event of somewhat broader scope than its predecessor, with the secondary impression shifting inward enough to register across the full span of the two-word inscription while still remaining confined to that portion of the reverse design. The obverse contributes a useful screening diagnostic: a die scratch to the right of the D in GOD (i.e., the D in the motto IN GOD WE TRUST), providing a quick identification point that collectors can verify at low magnification before turning the coin to examine the reverse spread. No significant reverse die markers have been recorded beyond the doubling itself. Struck at the Denver Mint during the regular-strike 1962-D production run, this variety extends the 1962-D DDR catalog and demonstrates that the Denver facility's reverse die preparation generated at least two distinct centripetal doubling events during that year's cent coinage.
