Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team as 1960 1c Pr WDDR-010, this proof Lincoln Memorial Cent doubled die reverse exhibits a spread towards the center on USA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE CENT, and the left side of the Memorial, combined with a counterclockwise spread on all design elements around the rim — especially prominent at the designer's initials. The obverse is the Small Date variety and is itself a doubled die, listed separately as 1960 1c Pr WDDO-008A, making this a combination doubled die coin showing hub doubling on both sides from the same die pair. Die markers include a short but strong die gouge running from southwest to northeast through the 6th, 7th, and 8th steps from the bottom of the Memorial, just right of the 6th column. The 1960 proof cent is part of the famous Small Date/Large Date year, and proof combo varieties — doubled on both obverse and reverse — are particularly prized because they offer two attributable errors on a single coin.
