Description

Exhibiting Class II spread towards the rim on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST, this 1960 Proof Jefferson Nickel is designated Small Date and attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1960 1c Pr WDDO-021. Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 1960P-1DO-008 and CONECA 13-O-IV+VIII. Die scratches on the obverse run from SSW to NNE above the I and B in LIBERTY, with additional die scratches running west to east on the lower shoulder. The reverse displays numerous nearly horizontal die scratches in the 9th Memorial bay. The Small Date designation identifies the specific date punch used for this die, distinguishing it from the Large Date variant also produced in 1960. The "Pr" in the Wexler attribution confirms proof status, and the CONECA designation of 13-O-IV+VIII indicates combined Class IV and Class VIII doubling mechanisms. This proof variety rewards careful examination under magnification, as the Class II rim-ward spread on IGWT may appear subtle on specimens with typical proof surface reflectivity.
