Description
The 1960 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1960 Proof Jefferson Nickel, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Cross-referenced as Cherrypickers: FS-01-1960-101 (025), Breen: #2229, CONECA: 1-O-III, Coppercoins: 1960P-1DO-003P Comments: As a proof variety it is highly unlikely that more than 3,000 specimens of this variety exist, as that is the average die life for a Lincoln cent proof die. Here we see the die scratches that run from the hair above the ear ENE into the forehead.; Wexler Variety ID: 1960 1¢ Pr WDDO-001.
