1960 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
ErrorDescription
Struck as a proof in 90% silver, this Franklin Half Dollar WDDR-002 is a combination variety pairing a doubled die reverse with a doubled working hub cataloged separately as WWHO-001 in the Wexler Doubled Die Files. The reverse shows a close spread towards the west on USA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, the dots, and HALF DOLLAR. The obverse working hub doubling (WWHO-001) produces a close spread towards the center on LIBERTY. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge midway between the R and T in LIBERTY. The reverse carries a small die gouge on the right side of the P in PLURIBUS. The dual-mechanism attribution makes this proof issue especially interesting, as the reverse doubling originates from the hubbing process while the obverse doubling traces to the working hub stage, representing two distinct points in the die production chain producing visible doubling on both sides of the same coin.
