1960 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-013
Error
Description
Displaying a close clockwise spread across several reverse elements, WDDR-013 on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Small Date regular strike affects the designer's initials, USA, and ONE CENT. The clockwise rotational displacement is characteristic of Class III hub doubling, where the secondary hub impression was rotated slightly relative to the primary, and on this variety the affected elements span from the designer's initials through the denomination and country abbreviation — a broad diagnostic zone that offers multiple points for confirming the secondary impression. The clockwise direction of spread means the displaced image trails counterclockwise from the primary, and collectors should examine the left edges and upper portions of the affected letters for the characteristic shadow or step. The obverse die markers for this variety remain incompletely documented, with only the general notation that obverse diagnostics exist. This sparse recording underscores that additional examination of multiple specimens may yield further attribution aids in the future. The Small Date hub places this variety in the later production phase at Philadelphia, and its presence in the Wexler catalog confirms the doubling as genuine and repeatable across coins from this die. Collectors pursuing the full range of 1960 DDR varieties should note that this variety also exists under the Large Date parent.
