1960 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
ErrorDescription
Cataloged on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Large Date regular strike, WDDR-002 shows extra thickness with some separation on the designer's initials, UNITED, ONE CENT, and AMERICA. Two die stages have been documented on both the obverse and reverse, tracking the die's progressive wear. Obverse Stage A carries a die scratch curving to the northeast from the top of the B in LIBERTY, a die scratch running from southwest to northeast above the top of the head to the left of the first T in TRUST, and numerous other die scratches throughout. By Obverse Stage B, these markers are much weaker but remain visible. Reverse Stage A shows a short curved die scratch near the top of the first Memorial bay and a short vertical die gouge to the left of the top of the second A in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B introduces a small die gouge to the right of the bottom of the second A in AMERICA and a small die gouge near the rim southeast of the designer's initials. Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1960 1¢ WDDR-002 with no other known cross-references, the Large Date attribution distinguishes this listing from the Small Date version and places it in the earlier production phase at Philadelphia. The dual-stage documentation on both sides provides a comprehensive record of how the die's secondary diagnostics evolved throughout its service life.
