Description
Strong Class VI extra thickness with some Class II separation spread towards the center shows on the letters of USA, ONE CENT, EPU, the dots, the designer’s initials, and both sides of the Memorial building. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Numerous short die scratches run from WSW to ENE above the RTY and to the right of the Y in LIBERTY. A die scratch runs SW from the lower left D in GOD. A short die scratch runs SSE from the underside of the chin. Obverse Stage B: Same as Stage A. Obverse Stage C: Numerous short die scratches run mostly SSW to NNE on the back of the neck. A horizontal die scratch can be found just below the D in GOD. Numerous die scratches can be found to the right of the upper profile. A small die gouge (dot) can be found to the right of the upper lip. Reverse Stage A: Two parallel die scratches run from north to south on the left Memorial base. A die gouge can be found below the left side of the U in UNITED. A light die scratch runs from SW to NE on the right Memorial base. A short die scratch runs from WSW to ENE above the head of the statue. Reverse Stage B: Several light die scratches run from SW to NE through the upper NI of UNITED. A short, strong die gouge touches the right side of the T in UNITED. A small die gouge can be found between the T and E of UNITED. Reverse Stage C: Several short die scratches run south from the underside of the NU in UNUM. A die scratch runs south from the bottom of the S in PLURIBUS. A die scratch runs NNE from the top of the right cornice. Two close, parallel die scratches run SSE from the lower right I in AMERICA. Numerous die scratches run mostly NW to SE through the bays on the right side of the Memorial.
