1960 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-010
Error
Description
Struck as a proof at the Philadelphia Mint, this 1960 Franklin Half Dollar DDR-010 shows medium spread on UNITED and E PLURIBUS UNUM with light spread extending to HALF DOLLAR and the eagle. The dual-intensity spread — medium on the upper reverse lettering, lighter on the denomination and central device — indicates the hub displacement affected the upper die face more strongly, attenuating toward the lower portion. Die markers UVC-151 and DMR-018 anchor the attribution within the VarietyVista system. Three die stages are documented: Stage A at Early Die State remains unconfirmed, Stage B shows both reverse and obverse reaching Mid Die State, and Stage C at Late Die State is also unconfirmed. The 1960 proof Franklin Half Dollar was among the final issues in the series before the Kennedy Half Dollar replaced it in 1964, and proof examples were struck with mirror-like fields that enhance the visibility of doubled die features. As the tenth cataloged DDR for this date, DDR-010 reflects sustained research interest in late-series Franklin Half proof varieties where controlled production standards preserved die anomalies for collector discovery.
