Description

Primary doubled die reverse for the inaugural year of Roosevelt Silver Dimes, DDR-001 displays medium spread on ERICA of AMERICA and DIME, with light spread visible on ONE, UNUM, and the right stem — a multi-element doubling pattern that affects both lettering and design features across the reverse. Die markers tracked under UVC-319 and DMR-006 document three stages: Stage A with both reverse and obverse at Early Die State, Stage B at Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C at Late Die State (unconfirmed). The Roosevelt Dime debuted in 1946 to honor President Franklin D. Roosevelt following his death in April 1945, and by 1959 the series had been in production for thirteen years with John R. Sinnock's design of the torch flanked by olive and oak branches on the reverse. The spread on ERICA represents the clearest diagnostic, as these letters at the right end of AMERICA show the widest separation between primary and secondary hub impressions. Philadelphia struck 85,780,000 Roosevelt Dimes in 1959, continuing the 90% silver composition that would persist through 1964. As DDR-001 — the first numbered doubled die reverse for the date — this variety carries the foundational attribution status that subsequent discoveries are measured against. Cataloged by VarietyVista, the medium-to-light spread pattern across multiple reverse elements makes this variety both visually interesting and diagnostically accessible for attribution.
