Attributed by the Wexler Team, the 1957 WDDR-016 is a proof Lincoln Wheat Cent with close spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM, the dots flanking the motto, and both upper wheat ears. Wexler Variety ID: 1957 1c Pr WDDR-016. The tight doubling across these elements indicates a minor hub displacement affecting the central and upper reverse design. Die markers anchor attribution: the obverse shows a die scratch running southwest to northeast on the shoulder above the designer's initials (VDB), while the reverse bears a die scratch north to south left of the L in PLURIBUS. These fixed surface features serve as fingerprints confirming identification even when doubling is subtle enough to require comparison against reference images. Proof Wheat Cents from 1957 were struck at Philadelphia for collector proof sets during the next-to-last year of the wheat-ears reverse.
