1957 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1957 WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1957 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, both dots, both upper wheat ears and both stems show a strong Class II spread toward the center. Obverse markers: two long scratches heading north from the top of LIBERTY's Y; SW-NE scratches through GOD's G; a long scratch heading north from the front of the eyebrow; and several cracks through the hair and forehead. Reverse markers: long X-shaped scratches alongside the upper left wheat ear, on its right; a N-S scratch between the tops of ONE's N and E; several parallel NNW-SSE scratches through the upper left of CENT's T; a short, strong scratch heading north from the lower left bar of UNITED's E; and several NNE-SSW scratches left of the bottom of PLURIBUS' P. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-R-II and Coppercoins as 1957P-1DR-001. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
