Description

A spread towards the west shows on the letters of LIBERTY while a spread to the east shows on the 19 in the date. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: The obverse also has an RPM variety listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1957-D 1¢ WRPM-095. It is a D/D Tilted Rotated. Parallel die scratches run NE from the top and bottom of the bowtie. A die gouge (dot) is visible in the field to the right of the eye. This die gouge can be seen on all stages. Obverse Stage B: The Stage A die scratches are no longer visible. Numerous die scratches run SW/NE to the left and right of the bust. Obverse Stage C: The same as Stage B. Obverse Stage D: Remnants of a die clash can be found to the left of the back of the neck. A small die gouge can be found above the right side of the E in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage E: A die crack runs NW/SE through the left side of the upper arm. Reverse Stage A: A strong feeder finger gouge runs SSE from between the left dot and the P in PLURIBUS. A long die scratch runs south from the top left of the T in CENT to the A in STATES. Other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse. Reverse Stage B: The Stage A die markers are very weak. Die clash marks can be found between the lower C and E in CENT and also connecting the E in ONE to the N in CENT. Die scratches run NW/SE between the C and E in CENT. A die scratch runs from the first U in UNUM through the E in ONE. A die scratch runs from the second U in UNUM to the top of the T in CENT. A die scratch curves SSE from the M in UNUM running to the left of the right wheat ear. Reverse Stage C: Most die scratches between the C and E in CENT now run SW/NE. Numerous SW/NE die scratches can be found throughout the left half of the reverse. Reverse Stage D: Numerous die scratches run NNW/SSE to the right of the E in ONE and the T in CENT. A die scratch runs SSW from the top of the second t in STATES through the C in AMERICA. A small die gouge can be found just SE of the bottom right of the N in UNITED. Reverse Stage E: New reverse die. A die scratch runs N/S midway between the upper left wheat ear and the C in CENT. A small die gouge can be found below the N in UNUM. Obverse Stage A:
