1956 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

1956 WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 1956 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, both dots, both upper wheat ears and both stems show extra thickness. The Stage A obverse is a doubled die as well, which Wexler's doubled die files number 1956 1¢ WDDO-008, with a close spread toward the center on IN GOD WE TRUST. Its markers are a gouge under the 5 of the date, a strong scratch heading NNE from the upper chin, nearly horizontal scratches north of the 1, and many heavy cracks through the hair. On Stage B a new obverse die, not a doubled die, has been put in, with a strong clash mark at the throat's front. Reverse Stage A has a small gouge touching the bottom center of the diagonal of ONE's N; a small gouge touching the top center of the diagonal of CENT's N; many NNW-SSE scratches through CENT's letters; and a large chip on the lower T of CENT. On Stage B these are weaker, though many can still be seen. James C. Moreland submitted Stage A and Geoffrey Fults Stage B. CONECA lists it as 8-R-VI.
