1955 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-011

Description

1955 WDDR-011 is a doubled die reverse on the 1955 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. E PLURIBUS UNUM, the two dots, the two wheat ears and the tops of ONE's letters are spread toward the center, and both wheat stems show strong extra thickness. Obverse markers: a scratch heading SSW from the lower right of LIBERTY's B; a short scratch heading SSW from the lowest point of the back of the head; a scratch heading SE from the 9's bottom; two roughly parallel scratches heading SSE from the bottom of the first 5; a SSW-NNE scratch near the bottom of the vest's center fold; and many other scratches across the obverse. Reverse markers: a short scratch heading NNE from the right wheat ear at its top right; a gouge near the rim between PLURIBUS' L and U; a short gouge heading NW from the top left of PLURIBUS' first U; and a N-S scratch right of the lower part of ONE's N. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
