1955 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

1955-D WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1955-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The eyelid is doubled to the south. The obverse is also a repunched mint mark, which Wexler's files number 1955-D 1¢ WRPM-046; Wexler's comments describe it as an RPM to the south whose lower serif is slightly split, with a separation line along the mint mark's lower curve. Obverse markers: scratches heading ESE from the eyebrow, nose and upper lip; crisscrossing scratches under the chin; V-shaped scratches heading east and southeast from the lower part of WE's E; a series of scratches SE of TRUST's second T; a horizontal scratch under LIBERTY's T and Y; and a long scratch heading NNE from the top of LIBERTY's T. Reverse markers: horizontal scratches through the BUS of PLURIBUS; many horizontal scratches through ONE; horizontal scratches under CENT's C and E; a series of gouges around the top of UNITED's U; and a vertical scratch joining the lower right wheat stem to AMERICA's C, low on the letter.
