Description

Cataloged as the second atypical die clash for the 1955-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, ADC-1C-1955D-02 documents a strong triple clash — the obverse and reverse dies struck each other three times without a planchet between them, at an angle or rotation different from normal die alignment. An atypical die clash differs from a typical clash in that the dies meet at an abnormal orientation, depositing incuse ghost impressions in unexpected positions rather than the predictable locations of a standard face-to-face impact. The triple clash compounds this effect, with three separate impacts layering clash marks on the dies. The submission notes that the clash shows well on the reverse but only slightly on the obverse near Lincoln's chin — this asymmetry indicates uneven force distribution or that one die absorbed more damage during the off-angle impacts.
