Description
As the first-cataloged doubled die reverse for the 1952 Denver Mint Jefferson Nickel, DDR-001 displays light spread on PLURIBUS UNUM — the latter portion of E PLURIBUS UNUM arcing above Monticello on the reverse. Die markers UVC-875 and DMR-005 provide the attribution fingerprint for this working die. The concentration of doubling on PLURIBUS UNUM rather than the full motto suggests the hub misalignment direction aligned with letter positions in the right portion of the inscription arc, where angular displacement produced its most visible effect. The 1952-D carries a small D mintmark to the right of Monticello, the standard Denver placement from 1938 through 1964. Light spread requires attentive magnified examination — the curved letters P, U, and S often show the most useful doubling because their rounded forms amplify directional offsets. As DDR-001, this variety holds the primary catalog position for 1952-D, and UVC-875 and DMR-005 allow confirmation through die characteristics beyond the doubling pattern.
