1948 Franklin Half Dollar - Doubled Working Hub Reverse WWHR-001

Description

1948 WWHR-001 is a doubled working hub reverse on the 1948 Franklin half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes a strong spread toward the NW on IGWT, the dots, UNITED and HALF DOLLAR, and on the right side of the bell clapper. The die markers on the obverse and reverse differ for each working die the hub affected, Wexler notes. Various individuals are credited with submitting it. Its Cherrypickers number is FS-50-1948-801, and Flynn lists it as MD DDR-001. CONECA gives it 1-R-IV+VIII and 3-R-IV+VIII, as well as 4-R-IV+VIII and 5-R-IV+VIII, and also 6-R-IV+VIII and 7-R-IV+VIII. Per Wexler's comments, CONECA has not listed this as a doubled working hub and treats several of its working dies as separate varieties. Wexler adds that the same working hub doubling turns up on the reverse of the 1948 Denver (D-mint) half dollars.
