1947-S Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001
ErrorDescription
A dual-variety coin, the 1947-S WDDO-001 Washington Quarter combines a doubled die obverse with a repunched mintmark on the same die marriage. Carrying the Wexler Variety designation 1947-S 25 cent WDDO-001, the obverse shows a close clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 2:00, visible on the date and In God We Trust. Die cracks appear at the top of the head and across the base of the bust, documenting progressive die deterioration. The reverse of this variety is separately listed as 1947-S 25 cent WRPM-001, showing an S over S punched to the west. This convergence of two independently cataloged varieties on a single coin makes the 1947-S WDDO-001 a particularly rewarding find for cherrypickers, as both the obverse doubling and the reverse mintmark repunching can be confirmed on a single specimen.
