Description

Extreme extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM and the upper wheat ears distinguishes DDR-002 as one of the strongest doubled die reverses for the 1945 Philadelphia Lincoln Wheat Cent — the "extreme" designation indicating hub displacement at the upper end of what the Wheat Cent design can reveal. Die stage tracking documents three states: UVC-1673, DMR-014. Stage A remains in unconfirmed Early Die State. Stage B shows both reverse and obverse reaching Mid-Die State (MDS), confirmed. Stage C progresses to Late Die State (LDS), also confirmed on both sides. The confirmed MDS and LDS stages provide collectors with two validated reference points for assessing specimen die state. Philadelphia's 1945 production exceeded one billion cents using recycled brass shell casings, the final year of this wartime composition. The extreme extra thickness noted on the wheat ears is particularly diagnostic, as the fine parallel lines within each wheat stalk amplify even moderate hub displacement into clearly visible doubling. As DDR-002, this variety ranks second in the attribution sequence but may exceed DDR-001 in visual impact based on the "extreme" thickness descriptor. Cataloged by VarietyVista, DDR-002 rewards examination under 7x-10x magnification where the extreme doubling on E PLURIBUS UNUM letters becomes unmistakable.
