Description

Leading the doubled die reverse census for the 1937 Lincoln Wheat Cent, DDR-001 exhibits medium extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM, the dots, and both wheat ears and stems. The spread affects multiple design elements from the upper motto through decorative dots to the paired wheat ears defining the Wheat Cent's iconic reverse. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-1378 and DMR-012, three progressive stages are documented: Stage A in early die state remains unconfirmed, Stage B shows mid-die state characteristics with the obverse listed as DDO-009, and Stage C in late die state also awaits confirmation. The pairing with DDO-009 creates a dual-variety die combination where both sides carry independently cataloged hub-doubling features. Struck at Philadelphia in 95% copper and 5% tin-and-zinc, the 1937 Wheat Cent is part of the long-running series spanning 1909 through 1958. As the premier DDR for the date, DDR-001 represents the strongest reverse hub-doubling event among 1937 die pairings.
