About This Coin
The 1944 Philippine Fifty Centavos is a United States cent from the Philippines Fifty Centavos 1903-1945 series — a late issue, 14th of 15 years in the series. In 1944, coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil, similar to but larger than the twenty centavos and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Produced during World War II, when the Mint altered coin compositions to conserve strategic metals for the war effort. Struck in silver. A notable auction result reached $450 in MS66+ grade at eBay. Designed by Melecio Figueroa.
