About This Coin
The 1944 Philippine Centavo is a United States cent from the Philippines Centavos 1903-1945 series — the final year of the series. In 1944, coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint. The obverse features a male figure seated beside a hammer and anvil and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Produced during World War II, when the Mint altered coin compositions to conserve strategic metals for the war effort. Struck in bronze. A notable auction result reached $200 in MS63BN grade at eBay. Designed by Melecio Figueroa.
