About This Coin
The 1908 Philippine Centavo is a United States cent from the Philippines Centavos 1903-1945 series — an early issue, 5th of 36 years in the series. In 1908, coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint. The obverse features a male figure seated beside a hammer and anvil and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. Struck in bronze. A notable auction result reached $870 in MS66BN grade at eBay. Designed by Melecio Figueroa.
