1944 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

DDR-001 is the first catalogued doubled die reverse for the 1944 Lincoln Wheat Cent, attributed by VarietyVista under die pair UVC-1615, DMR-009. The reverse exhibits strong extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both upper wheat ears, the wheat stems, and the ERICA of AMERICA, with division lines visible on the upper wheat ears and on the R and B of PLURIBUS. Division lines — thin separation lines between the doubled impressions — indicate a spread significant enough to create distinct gaps between the original and duplicated design elements, making this among the more visually pronounced DDR varieties of the Wheat Cent era. Die state progression covers three stages: Stage A is Early Die State; Stage B is Reverse Middle Die State, with a long die scratch running north from the E of LIBERTY; Stage C documents further progression.
