Description
Extra thickness shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, the dots, and the wheat ears. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Concentric die scratches throughout the neck and jaw area. Multiple die scratches run SSE under RTY of LIBERTY. No die cracks at the base of the bust. Strong die scratches run NNW in front of forehead and eye. Obverse Stage B: Concentric scratches still show at neck jaw area. Die scratches still present under RTY and in front of forehead and eye area. A die crack is present above VDB. A die crack is present at the right lower bust running SE/NW. Obverse Stage C: The concentric die scratches, the scratches under RTY and scratches in front of the forehead and eye area are still present. There is a new die crack above VDB running NNW. The die crack above VDB extends further east through the base of the bust. The die crack at the lower right bust is slightly stronger. Reverse Stage A: Crisscrossing die scratches are present above STATES. Crisscrossing die scratches are present above UNI of UNITED. No die cracks are present on either wheat ear. No die chip is present on the base of the T of CENT. Reverse Stage B: The crisscrossing die scratches above STATES and UNI have weakened. A die dot is present SSE of the first U of PLURIBUS. A die chip is present on the base of the T of CENT. Two vertical die scratches run south M in AMERICA. Reverse Stage C: Die chip on the base of the T of CENT is present with a crack running north up the T. Die scratches run northeast through D of UNITED and S of STATES. A die crack runs from rim southeast into the left wheat ear. A die crack runs from the rim northwest into the right wheat ear. Obverse
