1943-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-029
ErrorDescription
Approaching the end of the extensive 1943-D doubled die obverse catalog, WDDO-029 represents one of the later-discovered varieties from Denver's wartime steel cent production. Later catalog numbers do not necessarily indicate lesser varieties โ they simply reflect the chronological order of discovery and attribution. A variety numbered WDDO-029 may exhibit doubling as prominent as one numbered WDDO-001; the numbering records when the variety was documented, not its magnitude or collectibility. On steel Lincoln Cents, the obverse design elements most commonly showing hub doubling include the upper and lower serifs of LIBERTY, the crossbar of the T in TRUST, individual date numerals, and the bow tie area of Lincoln's portrait. Preserved specimens with original zinc luster provide the clearest view of these diagnostic features. The Wexler Team continues to maintain and expand the catalog as new finds surface from previously unexamined groups of 1943 cents. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1943-D 1ยข WDDO-029.
