1941-S Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005
Error
Description
Paired with the Small S mintmark variety on its obverse, the 1941-S WDDR-005 Lincoln Wheat Cent shows a Class I counterclockwise spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both wheat ears and stems, the upper letters of ONE, and the outer letters of USA. Class I rotated hub doubling produces a consistent directional spread across the die face as the hub rotates slightly between impressions. The Small S mintmark designation narrows attribution beyond the date and mint alone. Reverse markers include a die scratch NNE from the upper right of T in CENT, a vertical scratch inside the O of OF, and several vertical scratches inside the C of CENT. Cross-referenced as CONECA 5-R-II-C+VI, indicating a combined Class II and Class VI classification. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1941-S 1-cent WDDR-005. The 1941-S was the last full year of peacetime cent production before the 1943 wartime composition changes.
