1940-S Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007

Description

Struck at the San Francisco Mint, the 1940-S WDDR-007 Lincoln Wheat Cent shows a close spread toward the center on both upper wheat ears and the right wheat stem, with slighter doubling on EPU and the dots. Carrying the Wexler Variety designation 1940-S 1 cent WDDR-007, this variety offers collectors a wealth of die markers for confident attribution. The obverse features two small die gouges appearing as dots below the E in LIBERTY, a north-south die scratch between the I and B in LIBERTY, and a die chip in the lower B of LIBERTY. The reverse carries a die gouge running through the top of the right wheat lines. These multiple identification points across both sides of the coin make this variety one of the more straightforward attributions in the 1940-S Wheat Cent doubled die reverse series.
