1940 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

1940-S WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 1940-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong Class II spread toward the center shows on both upper wheat ears, EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM), and both dots, and both wheat stems show extra thickness. Obverse: scratches under the 9, left of the 1, right of the eyebrow, and beneath LIBERTY's L, plus a crack running from the head through TRUST's R. Reverse: scratches at ONE's O, at the CE and the T of CENT, and at the NI of UNITED. Brian Allen submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-R-II; the Coppercoins number is 1940S-1DR-005. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
