1939 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

1939 WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The eyelid is tripled, with the extra eyelids southeast and south of the primary one. Obverse: a scratch starts at the rim above GOD's O and travels ESE to the D, and a curly gouge leaves the rim east of the top of TRUST's last T; Wexler says this gouge comes from the master hub. Reverse: a NNE/SSW crack runs through the middle of the right ear's right wheat grains and is heavily chipped at its top. The upper left grain of the left ear is also heavily chipped, followed by a light crack heading north. J. C. Moreland submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
