1939 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005

Description

1939 WDDR-005 is a doubled die reverse on the 1939 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Very strong Class VI extra thickness covers both wheat ears and stems, EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM), the dots, the C and T of CENT, the O and E of ONE, the outermost letters of UNITED STATES, and the letters of OF AMERICA. Obverse: a gouge below and between TRUST's T and R; a scratch running SSE off the bottom of LIBERTY's B; a scratch curving east from the S of TRUST at its bottom left; several scratches running east from the bottom of TRUST's second T; and many other light scratches across the obverse. Reverse: a scratch heading SW from the E of EPU at its center left; parallel scratches running SSW from the IB of PLURIBUS; parallel scratches running SSE from the right side of UNUM's first U; and many other scratches across the reverse. Geoffrey Fults submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 4-R-VI; the Coppercoins number is 1939P-1DR-004. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
