1939 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-024

Description

1939 WDDO-024 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling takes the form of an extra eyelid to the south. Obverse: a series of scratches running SE under the chin; a series of scratches around the nose; a N-S scratch left of the I in IN; many SW-NE scratches behind the upper hair; a faded gouge at the rim over the first T of TRUST; and a faded scratch running NW off TRUST's R from its upper left edge. Reverse: light scratches between the O and N of ONE; a clash line right of the bottom of CENT's C; and many mostly E-W scratches in the field south of OF. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
