Description

Holding triple recognition as DDO-001, CONECA cross-reference 1-O-II-C, and Fivaz-Stanton FS-101, this 1937-S Mercury Dime represents the most significant doubled die obverse for the date-mint combination. Light spread appears on the date, the back of Liberty's winged head, and IN GOD WE TRUST on Adolph Weinman's obverse. The involvement of the back of the head — the sculptural contour behind Liberty's cap — is an unusual pickup point, as the spread follows curved relief surfaces rather than flat lettering.
