1937 Proof Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

1937 WDDR-008 is a doubled die reverse on the 1937 proof Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. ONE, the right wheat ear, EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM), and the dots show extra thickness, and the left wheat ear and stem show a spread toward the center. Obverse: a short gouge parallel to the rim, left of GOD's G near its top, and a heavy scratch below the designer's initials that runs nearly parallel to the rim. Reverse: a scratch heading NE from the first T of STATES, at its upper right, to the top of CENT's T; a short scratch running south off the base of the O in OF; a short scratch rising north from the top right side of UNITED's U; and two roughly parallel scratches curving beneath the US of PLURIBUS. Robert Julian, Jr. submitted the variety. The Coppercoins number is 1937P-1DR-001P. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
